Dog Guard Attack!Game Highlights & OutcomesRecord: 2 Wins - 3 Losses - 2 Ties (as of 6/19/07)
Game 1 Highlights: On Wednesday, May 30, The Dog Guard Attack! took on Dairy Queen in their first game of the season and won by forfeit. Score: forfeit Team/Player Highlights: Brittany was the pitcher in the first game of the season and she did a great job in her first outing. Samantha made a super play at third base and nearly threw the runner out at first. Brooke and Tess, the Dog Guard Attack! catchers did a really good job behind the plate as they split the time as catcher - good job girls! All of the girls were focused and hitting was good for the first outing of the year. With a little batting practice it should be a great season and we're looking forward to having lots of fun! --- Don't forget to come out to the Dog Pound on Friday to root on the Dog Guard Attack! --- Game on girls!
Game 2 Highlights: On Friday, June 1, The Dog Guard Attack! took on the Stingers at Dunham Park diamond 2. We had a good outing and after a cloudy day and off and on showers throughout the day... the weather cleared up for a beautiful evening of softball. During one inning the Dog Guard Attack! scored the maximum of five runs allowed in any one inning - good team effort girls! Brittany made a tremendous snag at first base and showed her quick reflexes by picking up a hard line drive for an out. Kassidy made a nice defensive play at short stop by knocking down a Stingers hit and stopping a potentially big offensive play for the opposing team. Kristin put her bat to good use to draw what may be the most perfect batter's circle that we've ever seen! ;-) Hopefully everybody had fun and will plan on coming out again on Monday, June 4 at 6:00 PM to Brandon diamond F to root on the Dog Guard Attack! Come out and see us in action and check back later for game 3 highlights. --- Game on girls!
Game 3 Highlights: On Monday, June 4, The Dog Guard Attack! took on the Brandon Reds. Defense was the highlight of the night... Samantha made a great play at the hot corner at third base and threw out the runner at first. She made both a good stop and a great throw - great job Samantha! Another nice play was made by Kaylee at second base where she stopped a grounder and threw the runner out at first. Ellie snagged a hotshot at short stop that kept the other team from scoring and she really contributed to the defensive Attack! Bailey and Tess both did a great job at the catcher position and there were only three past balls allowed on the night! Kassidy was on the mound for two innings and had four strike outs and contributed to the defense by striking out the side in the second inning. Brittany came in at pitcher in the third inning and struck out the opposition 1 - 2 - 3. The opposing team wouldn't have even needed to bring their bats to the plate because Brittany was so dialed in and SMOKIN'the ball that they didn't stand a chance. Offensive highlights began with Sydney hitting a two run single in the first inning to start the scoring for the Dog Guard Attack! Candace was the player of the game -- she was hit in the ribs by a pitch in the first inning and showed the toughness of the Dog Pound by scoring two of our four runs after getting hit by the pitch! A special thank you to all of the parents for getting the kids out to the field in Brandon by 6:00 PM - we realize that this is quite a feat to achieve in peak traffic hours and want you to know that we really appreciate your commitment to your kids and to the team! We'll see you all at the dog pound at 6:00 on Wednesday, June 6 at Dunham 2 --- Game on girls!
Game 4 Highlights: On Wednesday, June 6, The Dog Guard Attack! played the older, more experienced Bombers and went down in an 11-4 loss. The Bombers proved to be a good team that demonstrated good fundamentals - they caught, threw and hit well and the Dog Guard Attack! went down graciously and showed great sportsmanship.
The teamfielded the ball very well - Kaylee, Samantha, Brittany, Ellie and Kassidy all caught and stopped hard hit balls and showed us their strong arms by following up with some good throws. The outfield - Brooke, Jasmine, Candace, and Emily did a nice job of backing all of the defensive plays. Brittany and Bailey were on the mound and they did a real nice job as always, and weren't intimidated by their older opponents. Tess and Bailey were behind the plate and did a great job of keeping the ball in front of them where it belongs... needless to say there weren't many past balls. At the plate the entire team was good about swinging the bat aggressively and that's what we want - go after that ball! Its been fun to watch the team come together. The fundamentals are there and the team work is good. With the great attitude of the team the Coaches are really looking forward to the remainder of the season. The team is really trying hard and everybody is paying attention. We'll see you all at the dog pound at 7:00 on Monday, June 11 at Dunham 1 --- Game on girls!
** A SPECIAL NOTE: All parents or players please respond to Dave via his e-mail link at the top of this page. We would like to know whether the girls would be able to play the weekend of June 23 & 24 in the SEFSA tournament. Please respond ASAP as the deadline for this tourney is Monday 6/11 and we would rather not wait until the last minute. Thanks so much for your attention in this matter! **
Game 5 Highlights:Monday’s game proved to be a barn burner against the Frisbee flyers. The game ended in a 15-15 tie. There were a lot of runs scored by both teams but the Flyer pitchers were unable to master the strike zone and the Attack! girls showed patience and a good understanding of the strike zone. I am pretty sure all members of the Attack! that were present scored at least once. After a weeklong trip to Okoboji, Kelsey took the mound for the Attack! She was a bit rusty at first but began to show signs of improvement as the game went along. Kassidy also pitched for the Attack! and the coaches wondered why she could not get the ball to the plate until Dog Guard Johnny investigated the distance and found that Kassidy had been standing on the wrong mound (not her fault). Way to go John and Kassidy. The Twins (Brooke & Brttany) and Ellie are on vacation this week so the Attack! will be fighting short-handed. The coaches are confident that the Attack! will start swinging the bats and become more aggressive when they are pitched quality pitches. Go get’em on Wednesday girls. Keep trying and we will start hitting the ball. The attack Defense is doing well stopping balls and throwing to proper bases. Way to go Attack!
** A SPECIAL NOTE: All parents or players please bring $10 for the tournament fund to Wednesday’s game. Jeff (Dog Guard) will be paying half of the entry fee for the SEFSA tournament to help defray the costs for all of Attack! team members. **
Game 6 Highlights: On Wednesday, June 13, The Dog Guard Attack! lost a tight game to the hot swingin bats of the Clubbers. Our girls were a bit hesitsant as the hurler for the clubbers was bringing the heat. We showed patience at the plate by taking advantage of the wild pitching, and getting walks throughout the game. Our bats need to get more aggressive, and that is going get better with practice, both at home and on-site practicing. The defense showed our toughness by staying in front of the hard hit balls by the crushing Clubbers. The Attack! is getting better defensively, and shows signs of getting over our fear of swinging the bats. Keep your heads up girls, have fun and the game will get easier to play. Have a great weekend everybody and we will see ya on Father’s Day at the Avera Sports Institute (golf dome) at 6:00 PM for batting practice. Happy Father’s Day Dad’s!
Game 7 Highlights: Monday, June 18, was an exciting night for the Attack! Again the Attack! faced an older opponent in the Sioux Falls Chiropractic Back Crackers. However, this time the girls of the Attack! were more prepared than ever before, and showed up swinging their bats. With the wind blowing hard and the Pitcher struggling to throw strikes, the Attack! showed patience and waited for strikes. This time the Attack! were confident and capable of taking hacks at the pitches. Every player in uniform at least fouled a ball off. There were three hits (clean hits) Kassidy, (laser up the middle), Brooke (hot shot @ 2nd base good hustle), and Kristin (grounder to third, Kristin made enemies with the first base bag, IT TRIPPED HER). Way to go girls, we are all proud of you! Other than the hits, we also made the defense make plays on us with 5 other grounders that were hit at the opposing fielders. That is 8 balls that were put into play by the Attack! and is 8 more balls put in play than the previous 2 games. Way to Go Girls!
Defensively, the attack showed that this game does get simpler with practice and encouragement. On the night, there were 7 plays made by the Attack! defense, not to mention the many plays our catchers blocked (Tess & Bailey) . Now that we know that we can play this game, we look forward to the progress that we will continue to make in the upcoming games. Kudos to the coaches and the players for all of their hard work. Girls, your coaches are impressed with your improvements and your parents are proud. Watching the girls try as hard as they can all the while having as much fun as humanly possible makes the commitment to the team worth while. The Dog GuardAttack! Softball Team has come a long way in 3 weeks and the coaches are extremely proud and looking forward to more fun in the coming weeks. More importantly, friendships are easier to form when everyone involved is having fun. And last night was alot of fun. Keep it up Attack! There are too many names to individualize in this short summary, all members of the team were AWESOME. GO DOG GUARD........Game On Girls!
