FAQ:
Q: Is my dog too old/too young for Dog Guard?
A: No dog is too old to learn how to use a Dog Guard pet containment system. Many dogs can begin training as early as 12 weeks of age. I like to meet the dog and get to know his personality and temperament before making snap judgments on a "set age" but in most cases you can begin training at a very early age.
Q: Is training my dog to use his Dog Guard system difficult or time consuming?
A: No, I am there on site to assist you in training your dog during the crucial training sessions and I teach you what to do in my absence. All that it really takes is 10-15 minutes per day for approximately 10 days. At the conclusion of training, I come back to your home with my dog and we do a "proofing" session to make sure that he has learned what he needed to.
Q: Will Jeff and Molly really be able to keep my dog in the yard?
A: Jeff and Molly have been training dogs to use the Dog Guard pet containment system since 1999 and train hundreds of dogs each year. To this point we have a 100% success rate in keeping our customers dogs at home... many of them have been challenging but none have been impossible.
Q: What if my dog can't be trained to use the fence?
A: You and I both want to be successful at keeping your dog safely in your yard, and if we work together I am confident that he/she will stay in your yard. If, for some reason, we complete the training and are unsuccessful, our money back guarantee will assure that you receive every penny back on the cost of your Dog Guard equipment.
Q: How much does a Dog Guard system cost?
A: That is a tricky question to answer as there are several variables that come into play when making a determination on the cost of a Dog Guard system including: the number of pets, the size of the yard, the terrain, what kind of configuration you want, etc. If you contact us we will gather some information specific to your situation and will happily quote you a price. Or, we would be happy to come to your home and provide you with a no pressure, no cost, no obligation consultation at your convenience.
Q: I have a large property, are you able to fence the whole thing?
A: Here's the good news! Since you have a large property you may be pleasantly surprised at the cost effectiveness of giving your pet the run of your property and yet keeping him safely contained. We will use the same equipment on your property that we do on most small lots, so there is no additional equipment cost. The only additional cost is for the additional wire and labor, so it works out to be quite economical to do large properties. We can cover areas up to 100 acres with our equipment and are willing to try more if you can provide the land!
Q: What kind of warranty is there on the equipment?
A: Dog Guard pet containment equipment is manufactured to the highest standards with the highest quality components and is backed by a limited lifetime warranty. Our warranty is so good that if your transmitter is damaged due to a lightning strike or a power surge, or even if your dog chews up the receiver on his collar, the parts are replaced at no charge to you!
Q: Will the installation damage my yard?
A: We use the finest, least invasive installation equipment and techniques available. Our wire burial machine cuts a small 3/8" slit in the lawn and in most cases, is barely even visible at the conclusion of the installation. Of course, variations in soil conditions, moisture content, the variety and quality of the existing turf and such, will result in variations in results.
Q: How do you cross my driveway with the Dog Guard wire?
A: It depends on the material that your driveway is made of and what you prefer us to do. In a gravel drive, we dig a trench and then encase our wire inside of a rubber air hose and bury it under your drive so that the hose protects the wire from being crushed and cut by the gravel under the wheels of the vehicle. Many times, with a concrete drive, we place the wire right inside of the expansion joint where your driveway and sidewalk meet, or in one of the "stress cuts" that already exist in your driveway; or we can cut our own stress cut and place the wire wherever you wish (we then seal the new cut). Blacktop usually gets cut and sealed. But in all cases, horizontal boring is always an option, and we can simply run the wire under the driveway with this option, but there would be an additional fee.
Q: Will you damage my lawn sprinkler system when you install my fence?
A: We bury your wire shallow enough that we will not cut the poly pipes for your sprinkler system. We ask that you mark your sprinkler heads with flags prior to the installation so that we can also avoid the heads. If you are unable to mark the heads we can do so for an additional charge.
Q: What happens if I cut the wire for the Dog Guard system?
A: Since this wire carries no electricity, it poses no danger to anybody and it is not difficult to repair. It is imperative however, that it be properly repaired. This can easily be done by the homeowner and we can provide you with the proper materials and instruction or we can come to your home and repair the wire for you.
Q: Will my Dog Guard system work in the snow?
A: Yes. When we install your system we will set your signal field so that it projects through any snow that should fall. If you live in a rural area where extreme drifting is prevalent, we will set the system accordingly and instruct you how to make the simple adjustments in the rare instance that it would become necessary.
Q: What if my dog's receiver collar gets wet?
A: No problem. Dog Guard has waterPROOF receivers while others are only waterRESISTANT. This means that your dog can swim with his Dog Guard receiver collar on with no effect on the equipment.
