Why Not Wireless?
I am frequently asked about outdoor wireless pet fencing systems and I always recommend against them. I actually have access to wireless outdoor units through my dealership so as you can see, this is NOT a bias that was created to fend off the competition because, in this case, I am my own competition. The reasons for selecting a hardwired outdoor unit over a wireless are numerous and here are a few examples:
1) As you can see in the illustration above, a wireless unit sends its signal out in a radius from a central point and in this case your pet is given access to approximately half of your property and a good share of that area is your house. I have never seen a round residential lot and this configuration makes very little sense in most cases. 2) You can not create off limits areas with a wireless outdoor unit. This means you can't keep your pet out of lanscaping, pools, ponds, play sets etc. If you wish to see how these configurations are acheived with a hardwired system click here. 3) I have had numerous customers that formerly had wireless units, tell me that the signal field was inconsistant and fluctuated which in turn confused the dog because he never knew where his boundary would be at any given moment. This results in a nervous dog that is afraid to leave the porch, or worse, does his bathroom duty in your house.
My surveys show that, if you get a wireless unit that does not fluctuate, that people are generally pleased with them - but that about 20% of them DO fluctuate. At Dog Guard Pet Fencing we are all about customer service and we get a large amount of referrals from our customers - I'm not willing to risk creating an unhappy dog and an unhappy customer therefore I won't sell you a wireless outdoor system until the technology improves.
The letters below were written by my customers that formerly had wireless fence units from another source and are now happy Dog Guard customers.
